In association with Cryptic Nights, Cove Park has created a two-week residency for the Scottish visual artist Rory Middleton. This residency will enable the artist to develop ‘The View’, a work devised and presented during a residency at The Banff Centre, Alberta, Canada, in 2010. Responding to the specific context of Cove Park, ‘The View’ will be presented here to the public in March 2012 as part of the Cryptic Nights programme.

Born in Edinburgh, Middleton lives and works in Portobello, Scotland. He studied at both Leith School of Art, Edinburgh, and Falmouth College of Arts. He received an MFA from Glasgow School of Art in 2006. In his work, Middleton explores cinema, architecture and landscape, often making installations which involve sculpture and video. He uses smoke, smell, sound and water to create environments for the viewer to enter.
