Moira McPartlin has been writing for over twenty-five years. Her debut novel The Incomers, published by Fledgling Press in 2012, was shortlisted for the Saltire Society First Book of the Year Award. Over the next seven years Moira wrote her speculative fiction Sun Song Trilogy novels (also published by Fledgling Press). The novels, set in 2089, reflect many issues we face today. Moira’s latest novel, Before Now: Memoir of a Toerag, is written entirely in the Fife dialect and was published by her own imprint, Trilleachan Press, in May 2021.

Moira has been a member of Scottish Pen’s Writers’ in Exile Committee since 2015 and is one of the editors of PENing, their online journal. In 2021 she became a writing fellow at Hawthornden Castle. In 2022 she was appointed the Scriever for The Federation of Writers (Scotland). She has been widely published in literary magazines and anthologies.

Moira is currently working with her husband on A Things So Delicate, a hybrid project about the social history surrounding the building of Scotland’s Victorian mass concrete viaducts. This includes creative nonfiction, prose, poetry, and photography. She lives in Stirling.

The Bridge Awards Residency was launched in 2023. In its first year this residency, which was designed specifically for artists based in Scotland recovering from breast cancer, was awarded to the Fife-based artist Susanne Nørregård Nielsen. Building upon the success of this first residency, we are delighted to launch a one-week group residency in May 2024. Following an open call for applications, we are pleased to announce that the participating artists this year include: film producer and writer Ros Borland, creative arts practitioner Abbey Craig, writer Moira McPartlin, and visual artist Krissy Stewart.
