Ellen Renton is a poet, performer, and theatre maker from Edinburgh. The project that she will be working on while in residence at Cove Park is an exploration of the culture around sight. Much of her previous work has been influenced by her experience of living with a visual impairment, but with this project, she is looking to focus on the concept of sight as a phenomenon, rather than its disabling implications in her own life. She hopes to research the social history of sight in Scotland, and to learn more about its place in folklore and tradition. She hopes to develop this research into a hybrid work which will combine poetry with other forms. This may include prose and photography, but she is keen to let the research lead the final pieces and experiment with form as much as possible.
