Since early 2021, James and Eric have been collaborating on an ongoing project – Pathlines – that brings together James’ artwork and Eric’s poetry to track and trace interactions between the human observer and the flightpaths of various animals: birds, bees, and so on. A number of these collaborations appeared in Prototype 3 (2021). Previously, James has written for Third Text quarterly, and his work was included in Theory in Contemporary Art since 1985 (ed. Zoya Kocur and Simon Leung). His artwork explores natural themes, ideas of anthropocentricity, and consciousness, but he avoids participating in gallery-oriented displays, preferring to represent work in an immersive ‘natural theatre’ (for further contextualisation, visit jamestheecreator.co.uk). Eric works in the English department at UCL where he lectures and writes on Shakespeare. His debut poetry collection, Raking Light, was published by Carcanet in 2017 and was shortlisted for the Felix Dennis Award for best first collection. His poetry has appeared in PN Review, Blackbox Manifold, 3:AM Magazine, and New Poetries VI (Carcanet), and he has published pamphlets with Crater Press (in collaboration with Emily Critchley) and Equipage.
