Emma Henderson was born in London and educated at the universities of Oxford and Yale. She completed an MA in Creative Writing at Birkbeck in 2006. One of the short stories she wrote during the course was runner-up for the Asham Award, 2007. Another was shortlisted for the Bridport Prize, 2012.
Her first novel, Grace Williams Says It Loud, was shortlisted for the Orange Prize for Fiction, 2011. She is hoping to complete her second novel in 2013.
Emma has worked as a blurbs’ writer for Penguin Books, a teacher of English in London comprehensive schools and, more recently, lecturer in creative writing at City University. She also spent six years, 1999 – 2005, living in the French Alps, running a ski and snowboard lodge.
