Laura Lightbody is a ceramic designer based in Glasgow. She graduated from GSA in 1999 with a BA(Hons) in Ceramic Design then went on to do a PGCE at Jordonhill College.
Her practice focuses on graphic collage and designing surface pattern for ceramic tableware. She collects and reuses that which quietly invades our everyday, the generally un-noticed stickers, labels and signage found on consumer goods and packaging. By presenting in a new way, what is overlooked, focusing on narrative, commentary, aesthetic qualities and graphic language, she transforms the temporary into something more permanent and celebratory.
Lightbody also teaches art & design at secondary school level, currently dividing her time between this and exhibiting her developing collections.
Selected exhibitions include ‘Wasteware’ (upcoming), Review gallery, The Lighthouse, Glasgow, ‘Laura Lightbody’ – solo show (upcoming),Bellshill cultural centre, ‘Art Village’, 2014, Shawlands Regeneration Programme, ‘Melting Pot’, 2014, Six Foot Gallery, Glasgow ‘The Sketchbook Project’, 2014, touring show Miami, USA ‘Christmas show’, 2012, The Lighthouse, Glasgow.
