Partnership — International Visual Theatre Residency

Taking place in early 2027, the International Visual Theatre Residency is a new initiative delivered in partnership with Manipulate Arts and international festival partners Arrivano dal Mare! (Ravenna, Italy), TIP-Fest (Turku, Finland) and Go Figure! (Oslo, Norway). The programme supports mid-stage development for ambitious visual theatre projects, creating space for artistic exchange, experimentation, and the development of high-quality new work.

Six projects from artists across Scotland, Finland, Italy and Norway will be supported. Audiences will be able to check out early performance sharings of these projects as part of Undercurrents, Manipulate Arts’ new event championing bold, untested new visual theatre, puppetry and animated film in February 2027.

Chu Chi Face (Scotland) is a wild romp of cogs, chaos & cabaret, an inarticulate cry for dress-up, defiance and hope in a world that’s horribly grown up. It explores pressing contemporary issues of political apathy, climate crisis and endemic loneliness through the ridiculous world of a couple living inside a clock that they cannot […]

Tube Man (Scotland/Finland) is an epic history of man told through and among hundreds of inflatable tubes. Two men (what are they doing here? are they lost?) manipulate these tubes – ridiculous and vaguely phallic – with leaf blowers, hoovers, foot pumps and wind machines. The manipulation of the objects becomes subtle terrain for moments […]

Antenne (Norway) explores existentialism, addiction and communication through a unique blend of performance, film and installation. Created by the acclaimed clowning duo whose work uses inventive slapstick, physical comedy and richly drawn characters. During the Cove Park residency, the pair will focus mostly on developing the performance through a dramaturgical lens.

Efestiade (Italy) brings together object theatre, engineering, science and dance through an encounter between bodily gesture, metallic matter and archaic myth. Structured as a visual poem in which inorganic materials, magnets, metal sheets and wire sculptures animated by the performers will become unstable creatures, ritual instruments, inner presences and tangible metaphors. At the heart of […]
