Argyll Rainforest Community Network Commission Announcement
Cove Park and ACT: Argyll and the Isles Coast and Countryside Trust have been working in partnership since 2021 when the two organisations formed the Argyll Beacon, a project led by Creative Carbon Scotland with the aim of bringing cultural and environmental organisations together to tackle climate change. The Argyll Beacon’s focus is Scotland’s rainforests, an endangered habitat found primarily in Argyll and Bute.
The Argyll Rainforests Communities Network is a new programme that seeks to bring together isolated rural communities in our region to build a network of rainforest habitats, and to connect these communities through creativity, education, and a shared interest in preserving this important habitat. The first two Rainforest Communities in development are in Tarbert and Knapdale.
Activities will include an Artists in Schools programme, guided nocturnal forest walks, family events and volunteering opportunities, as well as an important ‘pledge day’ where community members will be invited to guarantee their future involvement in restoring and conserving the rainforests.
This project is funded by Creative Carbon Scotland. More information on the 2024 Climate Beacon programme is available here.
