Hindsight (Scotland) is a visceral new work of visual theatre combining puppetry, sound, and storytelling. Following the relationship between a deer stalker and a hind, Hindsight tells the story of the deer and their role in Scotland’s climate crisis mitigation and rural land politics whilst unearthing urgent questions of conservation, eco-feminism, and our relationship to the natural world. The Cove Park residency provides an opportunity to focus on the visual dramaturgy and to continue an exploration of the vocal techniques such as hocketing.

Jenna Watt

Jenna Watt is a multi award-winning Scottish theatre maker. Her previous theatre works include: ‘Tetra-decathlon’, ‘Faslane’, ‘How You Gonna Live Your Dash’ and ‘Flâneurs’. Her first work of non-fiction ‘Hindsight’ was published by Birlinn in 2022 and long-listed for the Highland Book Prize. Jenna was Associate Reader for Playwrights’ Studio Scotland in 2026.

Taking place in early 2027, the International Visual Theatre Residency is a new initiative delivered in partnership with Manipulate Arts and international festival partners Arrivano dal Mare! (Ravenna, Italy), TIP-Fest (Turku, Finland) and Go Figure! (Oslo, Norway). The programme supports mid-stage development for ambitious visual theatre projects, creating space for artistic exchange, experimentation, and the development of high-quality new work.

Six projects from artists across Scotland, Finland, Italy and Norway will be supported. Audiences will be able to check out early performance sharings of these projects as part of Undercurrents, Manipulate Arts’ new event championing bold, untested new visual theatre, puppetry and animated film in February 2027.
