Born York, 1984. Lives and works in Glasgow.
Following a Foundation in Art and Design in York, Sophie Mackfall completed a BA (Hons) in Fine Art Painting and Printmaking at Glasgow School of Art.
Mackfall collages and assembles objects, images and works done in gouache or watercolour as a method of drawing out form and to forge links between differing surfaces, forms and content. She uses these works as a tool in the development of paintings, but plans to investigate their potential as works in their own right. Key points of research have related to alternative education and youth movements (such as The Kindred of the Kibbo Kift). She interested in ideological approaches to the practice of teaching, specifically the teaching of painting and drawing and the practices of craft and play.
