Legacies
‘Cove Park is part of the life blood of Scotland’s arts community.’ Charlie Prodger, visual artist.
Since Cove Park’s launch in 2000, over 3,000 artists and participants from all over the world have benefited from our residency and engagement programmes and the support we provide. Our aim is to continue this work during our next 25 years, and legacy gifts are one way to make this possible.
Legacy gifts do not cost you anything right now, but could have a transformative impact on the next generation of artists.
Our mission is to support local, national, and international artists, creative practitioners, and researchers working in all art forms, to make possible the development of ambitious, innovative, and ground-breaking new work for audiences across Scotland and beyond. If Cove Park and our mission is important to you, or someone special to you, consider leaving a gift in your Will.
Getting Started
You can draft your own Will, but it may be helpful to seek the advice and expertise of a solicitor. There are many online Will-writing services available. The Law Society of Scotland has a Wills, Executries & Trusts search engine to help you find a solicitor near to you who specialises in Will-writing.
If you live in England or Wales: www.lawsociety.org.uk/en
If you live in Northern Ireland: www.lawsoc-ni.org
If you already have a Will, and would like to add a gift to Cove Park, you can write a ‘codicil’ or supplement to your Will. It is still important to ensure that the codicil is written carefully, signed, and witnessed, so we would suggest speaking with a solicitor before making the amendment.
Types of Legacy Gifts
Residuary Gift: This is a gift that is part, or all, of what is left after debts, expenses and other gifts have been finalised. These are very flexible, as the shares remain proportional to each other, whatever the value of your estate.
Example Language: Subject to the payment of my debts, funeral, and testamentary expenses, I give (state percentage, eg 15%) of my estate not otherwise disposed of by this Will to Cove Park, a charity registered in Scotland with number SC029530, whose registered office is Cove Park, Peaton Hill, Cove, Argyll & Bute, G84 0PE, for its general purposes.
Pecuniary Gift: This is a gift with a fixed sum. Many people choose a round number such as £5,000.
Example Language: I give to Cove Park, a charity registered in Scotland with number SC029530, whose registered office is Cove Park, Peaton Hill, Cove, Argyll & Bute, G84 0PE, the sum of £_____ for its general purposes.
Specific Gift: This is where you have valuable or significant item/s, such as a work of art, specific shareholdings, or a book collection that you would like to leave to Cove Park.
Although specific gifts are wonderful and very much appreciated, certain practicalities may need to be resolved. If you would like to leave Cove Park a specific gift, please contact us directly.
Please note, any legacy to Cove Park will reduce your estate’s liability to inheritance tax, if applicable. Your solicitor can provide the appropriate advice.
Our Promise
You do not have to inform us that you will be leaving a legacy gift to Cove Park in your Will, however we would like to celebrate your generosity with you personally before the Will goes into effect. We recognise that your loved ones are your priority and come first. We will keep in touch in whichever way you wish, and you and your family are very welcome to visit Cove Park.
