Silently Recording – An Event with Laure Vigna

Silently Recording – A community event with visual artist Laure Vigna, Peaton Layo, June 2024

We are pleased to share details of Silently Recording, an event with artist Laure Vigna, on Friday 24 May 2024, from 5pm, at Peaton Layo (the shorline of Loch Long opposite Cove Park).

Silently Recording is an open group, of observers or experts, invited to engage with the memories stored in landscape and to share their observations surrounding the interactions between macro and micro species with the invisible pollutants on the Rosneath Peninsula.

Silently Recording will explore how microbial communities interact with inert matter such as sediments, or morph and adapt into invisible pollutants stemming from local water and soil exploitation and exhaustion. This event will also ask what chemical residues remain active and how they affect these microbial communities, potentially causing genetic alterations and mutations.

We will examine several sites along the shoreline of the Rosneath Peninsula, identifying and documenting the flora, insects, molluscs and other species coexisting with sediment microbial communities, noting the transformations that occurred and revealing the memory buried by material flows. How can we examine the behaviour of sediments — chemicals binding with microbial worlds? What goes in and out of the loch and how contaminants move through the subsurface? How can we name and map these contaminants and perhaps speculate on an epidemiological map of the loch and its shores?

Further information is available here and if you would like to take part or have questions about accessibility, please contact Alexia Holt directly.
