Charlotte Smithson is an artist and creative producer based in Manchester, whose work blends design, craft and botany. A fascination with nature is evident in Charlotte’s work, which she explores through site specific installation, stitch, drawing, photography and plant studies.

Charlotte’s work has been exhibited across the UK, including at the Garden Museum London, RHS Chelsea, End of the Road festival, the Whitworth, and English Heritage. She has collaborated with the University of Derby’s Nature Connectedness Research Group and YSP through the Oak Project, and led projects with Manchester Met University, Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, HMP Styal and HMP Askham Grange. Recent press includes features in the Guardian, Times, Daily Telegraph, Resurgence and Ecologist, and New Scientist.

The main focus of Charlotte’s residency will be to reconnect with nature. Her time at Cove Park will include R&D for a forthcoming solo show, as well as her residency with the Northern Sustainable Darkroom, whilst emotionally, physically and creatively drawing from the Scottish wilderness to kindle new ideas.
