Josefin Vargö
Duration
Based in Stockholm, Sweden, Josefin Vargö is a food artist, designer, and independent curator whose work explores the intersections of food, time, and craft. Using food as both material and medium, she creates sensory and performative installations that provoke reflection on societal structures, norms, and value systems. Through meals and shared experiences, she investigates how food culture acts as a mirror of politics, social behaviors, and historical narratives.
Her practice is inherently collaborative, engaging artists, designers, chefs, food ecologists, and composers in a process that extends beyond the table—connecting to agriculture and cycles of production. With an investigative approach, she crafts ephemeral yet impactful works that challenge perceptions and invite playful yet critical engagement.
Josefin’s work has been presented in exhibitions and projects with institutions such as Statens Konstråd (Public Art Agency Sweden), Verkstad Konsthall, The Swedish Institute, Delfina Foundation, Slow Food, The Spritmuseum, 21_21 Design Sight Museum in Tokyo, Norberg Festival, and Roskilde Festival. She has participated in numerous international artist residencies and recently published Högar av Bröd, a short publication in collaboration with Verkstad Konsthall.
‘I will spend ten days at Cove Park to further develop ‘Peatland Feast 2030′, a long-term project I initiated during my Food Ecologies residency at Cove Park in January 2024. This project explores the ecological and cultural significance of peatlands, emphasizing their deep connections to our water and food sources. By engaging with the slow, transformative processes of these landscapes, I seek to challenge contemporary notions of time in a society driven by speed and efficiency. Through these explorations, Peatland Feast 2030 serves as a platform for dialogue on our fragmented ecosystems and the urgent challenges of climate change.’
