Kat Hill

Kat Hill (photography, Nicholas J. R. White)

Kat Hill is a writer, artist and researcher. Her practice is rooted in writing but is multidisciplinary in nature and focuses on the nature of our material, creative and collective existence, and human and non-human encounters. Her practice involves a combination of creative non-fiction writing, archive, audio and image. Rooted in her skills as a writer and historian, she interweaves her experiences with material from archives, museums and books to construct complex and incisive narratives. She engages in archival and curatorial work, collating materials from museums, repositories and collections across the world, digital, physical and material. She reworks these into novel forms, interweaving writing with images, sound and drawings.

Prior to her creative career, Kat worked as an academic historian for 15 years. She regularly delivers talks on her work at institutions across the world and at conferences, including the Huntington Library, UMPRUM in Prague, Columbia University, Princeton University, St Andrews, and KCL. She has collaborated with museums and archives, organised conferences and artistic gatherings, and has extensive experience working with communities and other creatives. She is now Creative Director for Upland Arts in Dumfries and Galloway.
