Ailbhe Nic Oireachtaigh is a viola player and composer exploring the tones of gut strings and wood in both amplified and acoustic contexts. Influenced by improvised, experimental and early music styles, she has released three solo recordings focused on exploring the instrument – Oreing (Fort Evil Fruit 2017), The Rounds (KRUT 2021) and Live At Sonic Acts (Scatter Archive 2023).

Her most recent album Lux Gratis (KRAAK 2025) is a collage method assemblage of pieces, begun while in residence at Q-02 sonic arts lab in Brussels. It brings new compositional explorations on organ, electronics and woodwind in tandem with home-style field recordings and the more familiar viola.

An active collaborator, Nic Oireachtaigh has toured with experimental Irish bands Woven Skull and Cian Nugent & the Cosmos and performed internationally with Josephine Foster and Circuit des Yeux. She lives in Glasgow where she plays in free-improv quartet Dome Riders with Fritz Welch, Armin Sturm and Mike Parr-Burman.

Other passing/recurring musical companions include Jorge Boehringer, Andrew Cheetham, Rhodri Davies, Natalia Beylis, Cal Folger Day, Lori Goldston, Josh Thorpe, David Lacey, Aonghus McEvoy, David Donohoe, Anna Clock.
