Duration
Vicki Painting is a photographic artist who works across film, installation, and sound. She is currently gathering research for a site specific project which has emerged from her practice-based doctoral research at the University of Brighton. This saw her investigate the experience of domiciliary care as experienced by her mother and the resulting creeping institutionalisation of the domestic space and ultimately, her mother. Her work is largely autoethnographic in that it aims to speak beyond the particular. She often begins this process with her camera constructing a narrative which although subjective, impacts beyond her own story. The main body of her practice over the last decade has both circumvented and included her role as carer.
Recent solo and joint exhibitions include “short days short weeks” solo exhibition November (2023) at Solaris Print Hastings, film screening of a ten-minute film of the same name at The University of Brighton’s ‘Rewild Festival’ focussing on sensory storytelling (2023) and photographic work for ‘The Immobilities of Gender – Based Violence, (2023) November, also at The University of Brighton.
