This two-month residency supports an established visual artist, based in Scotland, at a key stage in their career. It enables the artist to undertake research, explore new ideas and make significant developments in their practice within the context of Cove Park’s international and cross-disciplinary programme. Previous residents on this programme include Luke Fowler, Fiona Jardine and Torsten Lauschmann.

Henry Coombes is a visual artist and filmmaker based in Glasgow. Since graduating in 2002, he has produced an outstanding body of work, including films, sculpture, drawings and paintings.

At Cove Park, Coombes will develop an ambitious new body of work inspired by iconic modernist paintings and sculpture. The opportunity to work at Cove Park alongside artists specializing in a broad range of disciplines will directly inform his approach towards all aspects of his practice, including script writing, set production and direction. Ultimately, the work produced during the residency will lead to the development of a narrative for a new short film to be completed by the end of 2011 and premiered as part of GI (Glasgow International) Festival of Visual Arts in 2012.
