Kate Bowen

Kate Bowen is a Glasgow based writer and producer. Her first full length play, Close Quarters, was put on by Stockroom (previously Out of Joint) in a co-production with Sheffield Theatres in 2018, directed by Kate Wasserberg; and was named by The Observer as one of their top ten theatre productions of that year. Her next play, Disfunction, was commissioned by Jemima Levick for Glasgow’s Play, Pie and A Pint and co-produced by Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh in 2023, directed by Lu Kemp.
In 2022 she was on attachment for six weeks at the New Work Department of the National Theatre Studio in London. Other awards and residencies include the annual Playwright’s Studio Scotland’s New Writer’s Award; the Channel 4 Playwrights’ Scheme and a Starter for Ten residency with the National Theatre of Scotland.
In 2021 she worked with Tod Productions/STV to develop a sixty minute drama pilot, Storm Warning, for the BBC. Other screen work includes securing a place in the first BBC Writersroom Scottish Voices Drama Writer’s group, and being shortlisted for the BBC Writersroom’s flagship development programme Pilot. She is a BAFTA Connect member.
She is a workshop leader, and has taught at RCS (Glasgow) and LAMDA (London).
