Vanessa Walters

Vanessa Walters, Still, archival hand print, 2024 (courtesy of the artist)

Working in analogue photography, Walters’ accumulating archive of photographs operate as gentle observations of everyday life, as she seeks to expose both the stillness and chaos in how we inhabit the contemporary world. By casting our attention to things through the richness and weightlessness of colour and light, her images encourage the viewer to look more slowly and intimately at the world around us. Her work is concerned with the present experience as opposed to nostalgia, and she uses photography’s evocative qualities to pull the viewer in towards the image in either a close encounter or cinematic view; photographs are printed by hand in the darkroom through a slow and considered approach, with the final intention to share with the viewer a particular feeling, experience or world-view.

Vanessa Walters (b. 1994, Malta and raised in UK) is a photographic artist based in London, UK. She recently completed her MFA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths College in 2022.
