David Osbaldeston

Work by David Osbaldeston (photography, Alan Dimmick)

David Osbaldeston is a British artist who works across properties of collage, painting and fine print to produce a material outcome best termed collectively as ‘flat sculpture’.

His work is often made to interfere with relationships between images and the poetic variables associated with language used to describe them. This is done through a thematic lens that often explores power relationships through value, class, or identity to disrupt or bring attention toward an established pattern of meaning within an artistic context associated with perceptions of remoteness and exclusivity.

Forthcoming projects include a monograph ‘A Pastiche of Different Techniques’ published by Slimvolume (2025) ‘Tales from the Expanded Moment,’ Matt’s Gallery, London, (Sept 2025) and an Abbey Fellowship in Painting at the British School of Rome (Jan-Mar 2026)

Recent and previous solo exhibitions include Glasgow Print Studio (2024) Moon Grove, Manchester, (2022/3) Cample Line, Dumfriesshire (with Charlie Hammond, 2019) Bonington Gallery, Nottingham Trent University (with The Serving Library, 2018) . Collective Gallery, Edinburgh (2014) The ICA, London (2008) Matt’s Gallery, London (2006 & 2015).

This residency is supported by the Hope Scott Trust, Upland and VACMA.
