Zsuzsanna Ihar is a researcher, writer, and interdisciplinary image-maker whose practice spans environmental history, spatial politics, and experimental media. In the past, her creative and academic work has explored the elemental and epistemic politics of war, military folklore, and the strange micro-histories of militarisation and extractivism —with a particular focus on Scotland’s West Highlands and Hebridean archipelago, as well as garrisoned and post-industrial sites globally. Working across archival materials, field-based observations, writing, and visual media, Zsuzsanna’s practice interrogates small scale events, subtle discrepancies, glitches, and peripheries.

She finished her PhD in History and Philosophy of Science at Cambridge and is currently a postdoctoral scholar at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science. Her work has been featured across several artistic platforms and publications, including Glasgow International, Runway Journal, The Break-Down, TBA21–Academy’s Ocean Archive, Duke Press, and Pluto Press. She has been a Landhaus Fellow at the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society (RCC) in Munich, a Research Fellow at the Consortium for History of Science, Technology and Medicine (CHSTM), and a Knowledge Management Fellow at the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA).

At Cove Park, Zsuzsanna will work on an artist publishing project, tentatively titled ‘Listening Range: Notes from a Militarised Coast,’ with artist and producer Heather Fulton.
