Heather Fulton is an artist, producer and a new mum based in An Taobh Sear, Trotternish, Isle of Skye.

Following the birth of her son, and whilst on maternity leave from her role as Producer at ATLAS Arts, she is returning to her own artistic practice. Weaving storytelling, drawing, photography, collage and writing, her work explores the contested histories and realities that shape rural and island life.

Her current project, supported through Creative Scotland’s Open Fund for Individuals, investigates the militarisation of Scotland’s west coast. Focusing on Gruinard Bay, the BUTEC Rhone range, and the proposed spaceport at Scolpaig, the project examines the emotional and ecological impact of weapons testing, surveillance infrastructure and defence development; tracing how secrecy, speculation and fantasy appear in these places.

Working collaboratively with other artists, writers and local knowledge holders, the project draws on personal geographies, declassified documents and speculative fiction to create a multi-voiced publication.
