Sumayya Usmani

Sumayya Usmani is a Pakistani author living in Glasgow. She is a Scottish Book Trust Next Chapter Awardee (2021) and the award winning author of two cookbooks, ‘Summers Under the Tamarind Tree’ (2016, Quarto Books) and ‘Mountain Berries and Desert Spice’ (2017, Quarto Books) and one memoir, ‘Andaza: A memoir of food, flavour and finding freedom in the Pakistani Kitchen’ (2023, Murdoch Books)
Sumayya completed a MLitt in Creative Writing with distinction in 2023 and is currently doing a full-time PhD in Creative Writing, both from the University of Glasgow. Her literary interests include displacement, memory, generation trauma, belonging and the cultural legacies of colonisation and the Partition of the Indian sub-continent. Sumayya is also on the committee of the Scottish BPOC Writers Network.
