Patricia Wren

Patricia Currie Wren is a multidisciplinary artist of Scottish-descent working in San Francisco, California. Urban scavenger and explorer, Patricia notices the imprints of people and nature on the urban environment and celebrates those impressions through collage, post/mail art, watercolor and ink, printing (collagraphy, letterpress, and monotype), book arts, and pottery. Elements of decay, grit, and imperfection are thematic throughout her work and in this way, she has named her non-precious creative practice Non-Archival Studio.

Patricia is currently working on a small solo show which examines the presumption of privilege in representations of lesser-known female historical royalty and reimagines them in a contemporary way while juxtaposing the imagery with historical narrative/writings. Additionally, she is using her monoprints and other handmade recycled/up-cycled papers to explore large scale collage and book forms and the incorporation of relative text she has been writing. While at Cove Park, Patricia and her sister, Paula Currie, will be focusing on a collaborative book form they have been discussing—and not making—for 4 years.

Patricia grew up on the East Coast of the U.S. and lived in London, U.K. for four years before moving with her husband to San Francisco. In addition to all the things that SF has to offer, she enjoys playing with her 2 young cats, unplanned trips with her sister, and quiet time with her Kiwi husband.
