Elisabeth den Boer
Duration
Elisabeth den Boer is a visual artist. She was born and raised in the Netherlands and after a long period spent in the Austrian alps, now lives in West Sussex. She graduated with an MA from the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts (2021), specialising in traditional methods and materials. She has previously trained as a master chef;
“in my art practice, part of my experience as a chef is integrated, the fascination for materials and the process of transforming them from their raw state into a refined, altered state and combining them in a harmonious way plays a big role“
Her work focuses on the beauty of our natural environment by using materials found in nature that she transforms into grounds, pigments, binders and paints, but also by focusing on details and elements that look insignificant at first but carry great beauty in their simplicity. Current projects involve creating artwork from purely local materials to show how abundant our direct environment is and to highlight the role of the artist in environmental and sustainability issues.
This residency will give Elisabeth the opportunity to focus on developing her artistic practice through experimentation and reflection.
