Andy McGregor is a director, composer and playwright based in Glasgow. He trained at Glasgow University and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He is artistic director of Sleeping Warrior Theatre company – shows he has written, composed and directed for them include Battery Park, Crocodile Rock, A New Life, Spuds, The Rise and Inevitable Fall of Lucas Petit and Love 2.0. He has also written, directed and composed Goldilocks Goes to Greece, An Act of Union, Pure Freezin’ and Vinyl Idol (with Debbie Hannan) for A Play a Pie and a Pint. Crocodile Rock (Play a Pie and a Pint) was broadcast on the BBC. He wrote and composed The Park (National Theatre of Scotland) and wrote and directed Ever Young (Beacon Arts Centre) a short film. He has also made various Christmas shows for wee ones at The Citizens Theatre and Macrobert and has written and directed many pantos for PACE in Paisley. He has directed Disturbed (Play, Pie and a Pint), Godspell (RCS) and various Shakespeare’s for the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He co-directed Dead Air (Stockroom). He has composed for The Royal Court, The National Theatre of Scotland, The Tron and the National Youth Theatre. His play Influence, was commissioned and performed for 6 theatres UK-wide, from Dundee Rep to Plymouth Royal.

The Musical Theatre Writing Residency is a two-week international programme for emerging and established book writers, composers, and lyricists from the UK, India, and the United States.

The residency has been devised by Andrew Panton, Artistic Director of Dundee Rep Theatre, and will include facilitated sessions with Dramaturg Jeanie O’Hare (formerly Director of New Work Development at The Public Theater), Music Supervisor James McKeon (Musical Director: Moulin Rouge! The Musical, London), Donna Lynn Hilton, Artistic Director of Goodspeed Musicals, Connecticut and David Greig, Artistic Director of Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh. Shonagh Murray joins as Associate Musical Supervisor, with Imogen Stirling, supported by Playwright Studio Scotland, joining as Associate Dramaturg.

The creatives will also benefit from networking opportunities and workshop sessions, both in-person and digital, with industry-leading writers, composers, producers, directors, and other theatre practitioners – including Tony® Award-winning director John Doyle, Tony® and Grammy® Award-winning producer Mara Isaacs, Tony® Award-winning producer Rashad V. Chambers, and more.

Presented by Cove Park and Dundee Rep Theatre in partnership with Capital Theatres, Citizens Theatre, Macrobert Arts Centre, National Centre for the Performing Arts – Mumbai, National Theatre of Scotland, Octopus Theatricals – New York City, Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh, and Traverse Theatre.
