DPJ is an Edinburgh-based composer, pianist and vocalist. He has been creating work as a solo and collaborative artist across multi-artforms throughout Scotland, UK and internationally for over thirty years.

His music blends contemporary classical sensibilities with digital sound, exploring emotive and atmospheric soundworlds, from acoustic instrumental works, songs and larger-scale vocal works, to cinematic soundtracks and sound designs for theatre and dance.

A large body of his output is a series of soundtracks for some of Scotland’s leading theatre and dance companies including National Theatre Of Scotland, Traverse, Curious Seed, Vanishing Point, Dundee Rep and Catherine Wheels. He has been a member of the Grid Iron creative team for over twenty years.

His recorded work features on the Linn Record label. DPJ was awarded Best Music & Sound by the Critics Awards For Theatre In Scotland 2023 for his soundtrack to Love Beyond (Act Of Remembrance) by Raw Material & Vanishing Point. He is the recipient of the Glenfiddich Spirit Of Scotland Award for Music. Forthcoming works include a new song-cycle from the poetry of Kathleen Jamie. DPJ’s independent projects are kindly supported by Creative Scotland.
