Devesh Sodha, aka DEVSO, is an award winning British composer for media. His versatile compositional skills span a wide range of genres, including action, horror, thriller, drama, musicals, and more. From emotive and inspiring melodies to epic and breathtaking cinematic masterpieces, DEVSO’s distinct sound can be heard accompanying major trailers for TV shows, films and games such as Reacher S2, The Creator, Wonka, Life on Our Planet, The Mandalorian S3, Swarm, Diablo IV, Wild Hearts, Wakanda Forever, Spirited, Marvel’s Loki and more.

In recent years, Devesh has collaborated with renowned Hollywood production labels including Cavalry, Ghostwriter Music, and Divergence Music. Crafting tailor-made music for blockbuster trailers and games like the Super Mario Bros Movie, Minions: Rise of Gru, Hunters S2, Godzilla vs. Kong, Aliens: Fireteam. He was recently nominated at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards 2023 for Best Score in a Short Movie (Animated) for his work on COSMO.

With a passion for performing arts from a young age, Devesh expanded his interests in dancing and acting to include composing music for theatre productions. His accomplishments include scoring the UK touring production of Bring on the Bollywood, the thought-provoking Stardust, which addresses the LGBTQ+ community’s challenges within the Asian community and music industry, and a national adaptation of Shakespeare’s Cymbeline that toured 22 venues.

He currently devotes much of his time to working closely with directors and editors, creating bespoke scores for a variety of projects. He has recently joined Hans Zimmer’s team at Bleeding Fingers creating bespoke music.

The Musical Theatre Writing Residency is a two-week international programme for emerging and established book writers, composers, and lyricists from the UK, India, and the United States.

The residency has been devised by Andrew Panton, Artistic Director of Dundee Rep Theatre, and will include facilitated sessions with Dramaturg Jeanie O’Hare (formerly Director of New Work Development at The Public Theater), Music Supervisor James McKeon (Musical Director: Moulin Rouge! The Musical, London), Donna Lynn Hilton, Artistic Director of Goodspeed Musicals, Connecticut and David Greig, Artistic Director of Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh. Shonagh Murray joins as Associate Musical Supervisor, with Imogen Stirling, supported by Playwrights’ Studio Scotland, joining as Associate Dramaturg.

The creatives will also benefit from networking opportunities and workshop sessions, both in-person and digital, with industry-leading writers, composers, producers, directors, and other theatre practitioners – including Tony® Award-winning director John Doyle, Tony® and Grammy® Award-winning producer Mara Isaacs, Tony® Award-winning producer Rashad V. Chambers, and more.

Presented by Cove Park and Dundee Rep Theatre in partnership with Capital Theatres, Citizens Theatre, Macrobert Arts Centre, National Centre for the Performing Arts – Mumbai, National Theatre of Scotland, Octopus Theatricals – New York City, Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh, and Traverse Theatre.
