Wystke Veersteeg
Duration
Cove Park’s International Literature Residency supports an international writer at a key stage in their work. We offer the writer time and space to pursue a project or new ways of working free from the pressure of specified outcomes, in a changing community of artists across a range of art-forms, career stages and nationalities. Previous International Writers include Margaret Atwood, Anne Carson, Fred D’Aguiar, Christos Tsiolkas and Yelena Moskovich.
Wytske Versteeg (1983) is a Dutch novelist. She graduated cum laude as a political scientist; her first book, This is not a homeless person, was published in 2008. Her first novel, Weightless (2012), was awarded the Female Debut Prize. Later novels were Boy (2013; UK translation The Boy, Hoperoad) and Quarantaine (2015). Translation rights of her work have been sold in five languages. Versteeg is currently finishing her fourth novel Grime, which will appear in the autumn of 2017 and explores the fragile boundary between reality and madness.
Next to her activities as a writer, she is working with the Urban Future Studio (University of Utrecht), which aims to explore the role that artist imaginations can play in envisioning and building better urban futures, and finishing a PhD regarding the negotiation of knowledge rights.
