Johannes Nagel
The SAC International Crafts residency supports the work of an international artist working in a craft medium. In 2009 it has been awarded to ceramicist Johannes Nagel.
Johannes Nagel worked as an apprentice potter with Kinya Ishikawa in Val-David PQ, Canada before studying in the ceramics department of the University of Art & Design Burg Giebichenstein in Halle. Within his ceramic practice Nagel employs various making methods such as throwing, hand building and casting to explore a “vague’ idea of the vessel and what it can contain.
Nagel is currently based in Halle, Germany. Within his ceramic practice he employs various making methods such as throwing, hand building and casting to explore a “vague’ idea of the vessel and what it can contain.
He intends to use his residency to explore and develop this work further, experimenting with sand casting techniques on a large scale.
