Gail Priest

Gail Priest is a sound artist from Sydney, Australia making experimental sound and electronic music that explores the interaction of the figurative and the abstract, the machinic and the organic, the sensual and the brutal.  Her practice encompasses performance, recording, sound design for dance and theatre, installation, curation and writing.

She has performed and exhibited nationally and internationally at events and galleries including ISEA2016 Hong Kong, Werkleitz Festival, Halle, Germany, the Sonortetum, Kapelica Gallery, Slovenia, Tokyo Wonder Site, Japan, Artspace and Performance Space, Sydney. Gail has undertaken several radio commissions and released five albums. She is also a curator of concerts and exhibitions and writes factually and fictively about sound and media arts. In 2015-16 she was the Australia Council Emerging & Experimental Arts Fellow developing a body of work exploring what art in the future will sound like. Her upcoming projects will explore an “ideasthesia” of sound and text, developing a hybrid form of “sound-writing.”

Gail’s residency is supported by Australia Council for the Arts and The SUBSTATION, Melbourne, Australia.
