Alexandra Compton

Alexandra Compton is a Scottish writer, artist, and PhD Researcher at the University of Glasgow, whose work explores working-class life, place, and community. Her debut poetry pamphlet, A Thousand Binding Moments, was published in 2022, and her writing has also appeared in BWQ, From Glasgow to Saturn, The Poetry Experiment Anthology and is forthcoming in From the Roots.
Alexandra is also interested in the intersection between written and visual arts, and her visual poetry installation, In the Folds, was first exhibited at Glasgow Women’s Library in 2025. She is currently working on textile art inspired by Scotland’s landscapes and waterways.
In 2017, Alexandra founded Maggie’s Beautiful People Project, a Glasgow-based charity working to increase access to the arts. She has also worked collaboratively with the Alasdair Gray Archive and with Glasgow Women’s Library on producing educational resources, and has facilitated workshops at both Glasgow Women’s Library and the University of Glasgow.
She previously graduated from the University of Glasgow with an English Literature MA in 2023 and a Creative Writing MLitt in 2024. Her current Creative Writing PhD research explores the social history and working-class communities of Scotland’s canals.
