Rafia Hussain is a socially engaged theatre producer with a particular focus on racialised artists and producers. She is currently developing a number of new shows with exciting Black and Brown artists from across Britain. Previous work includes projects with Fifth Word, One Tenth Human and Derby Theatre. This year she co-authored ‘Producing Producers’ – the culmination of a two year research project with Tara Theatre and The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.
She is also Strategic Producer of In Good Company (IGC), the leading artist development organisation for the Midlands and producer of annual summer festival, Departure Lounge. IGC leads an 11 organisation partnership across the region to pool resources, knowledge and power to make the Midlands a place where high quality performance can be made by artists, no matter their background.
Cove Park and Business of Broadway, in association with Capital Theatres, have devised a new residency for creative theatre producers to take place in January 2025. Over the course of one week, residents will benefit from an immersive and creative space to connect and develop their theatre producing practice with guidance and support from Business of Broadway. This professional development opportunity is intended for early and mid-career theatre producers based in the UK and Ireland, and will include workshops and lectures on commercial theatre producing in New York City and beyond. Sessions will include topics such as: producing on Broadway 101, fundraising and pitching in the United States, financial models (budgets, recoupment schedules, royalty pools, etc.), U.S. unions & guilds, production and investment contracts, marketing, and more.
