Paula Thompson
Duration
We are pleased to welcome the artist Paula Thompson to Cove Park for a one-week residency in 2024.
Paula is a visual artist based in Edinburgh. She works mainly to commission on public art projects, where her work responds to the history of the site, its environs and its users. She uses a wide variety of materials, with a specialism in architectural glass. She works closely with public art consultants, architects and engineers to create work which is site specific and embedded in the history and fabric of the building. Her work is usually architectural in scale, and can form part of the structural element of a building or stand alone within the space.
She enjoys spending time in archives and integrating elements of the history of the site within the concept of her artworks. When the work is installed it is thoroughly rooted in the space and feels like it is where it is supposed to be. Fusing contemporary manufacturing techniques and technology with archival research, she creates work which interacts with the light in the space, altering depending on the time of day or year.
She has worked within the fields of healthcare, arts, hospitality and education. Current commissions include major new internal and external work for The Anchor Centre within Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and public art for street lighting in the city centre of Perth.
