
Jessica Barnfield

Jessica is a fiction writer based in Edinburgh. Her debut novel was Highly Commended in the Bridport Prize Novel Award in 2022, and she has since been shortlisted and longlisted for the Bridport Flash Fiction Prize and the Bath Flash Fiction Award. Her short story ‘Subsidence’ was runner-up in the 2025 Harper’s Bazaar Short Story Competition.
Jessica’s work often explores the fragility of identity, the complexities of family life, and the traces people leave behind, set against the forces, both visible and hidden, that seek to erase or redefine us. Her writing has appeared in The London Library’s ‘New Voice Rise Anthology’ and the Bridport Prize Anthology. She was part of the London Library Emerging Writers Programme (2023–2024), where she began work on a new novel and a series of short stories.
She works in audio publishing and is represented by Rachel Goldblatt at Curtis Brown.
