Demelza Kingston is a Glasgow-based artist working in photography and moving image. Reactivating expired and obsolete materials and working with low-toxicity methods including plant-based photographic developers, Demelza works in the (un)natural landscape around her, considering themes of human – more-than-human relationships, time and traces and politics of land, botany and medicine. Having worked with homegrown developers to explore the properties, histories and folklore of wormwood in her degree, she is now expanding on these processes and themes, exploring the arrival, impact, stories and properties of ‘invasive’ ‘non-native’ ‘weeds’.

Demelza was awarded the Alice Duncan Prize degree show work at The Glasgow School of Art, a selection of which was also exhibited in Futureproof 2024, at Street Level Photoworks, Glasgow. Recent commissions and exhibitions include Quantum Dialogues, a collaborative project and group exhibition with the University of St Andrews School of Physics and Astronomy at The Byre Theatre in St. Andrews, The Little Institute in Glasgow, Nature Networks: Analogue Photography Workshops at Cove Park and EcoPixels, a group exhibition with Refractive Paisley.

Demelza was awarded The Shore Photography Residency at Cove Park in 2025 and the Artlink, Fort Dunree / Street Level residency in 2025/6.
