Rose Ruane was originally a visual artist working in performance, sculpture, drawing and video. Stories and language were always part of her art practice, but as the written word crept further and further into her art and gradually edged out making and performing, she had to admit it that she had become a writer instead.
After several years of exhibiting art, including solo shows at SWG3 and The Briggait and scripted performances at CCA and Declaration Festival, she stopped denying she was a writer after all, and undertook the MLitt in Creative Writing at Glasgow University. She subsequently won the Off West End Adopt a Playwright award in 2015.
She has written about the pleasure of forgetting for Radio Three’s The Essay and made the documentary podcast We Have Names For People Like You, about the relationship between language and mental health for BBC Scotland.
She is represented by Jo Unwin and her debut novel This is Yesterday will be published by Corsair Books in Spring 2019.
