Annie Rutherford is based in Edinburgh, albeit with frequent stints in Germany, where, as she describes it, ‘she makes things with words, and champions poetry and translates literature in all its guises’. She studied Modern European Languages (German and Russian) at the University of Edinburgh, before completing a master’s degree in Comparative Literature at the Georg August University in Göttingen, Germany. Annie works as Programme Co-ordinator for StAnza, Scotland’s International Poetry Festival, and as a writer and translator. Translating predominantly from German, she also works from French, Russian and Belarusian. Her translation of German poet Nora Gomringer’s work, Hydra’s Heads, was published by Burning Eye Books. She co-founded the literary magazine Far Off Places and Göttingen’s Poetree festival.
