Lauren Doughty is an artist working with drawing, layered mark-making and print. Her practice is built around processes she can’t fully control — images are rarely imagined in advance, emerging instead through an accumulation of marks, colour and internal symbolism. Informed by the natural world, her work builds imagined landscapes that sit between the abstract and the figurative.

Drawing offers her something close to a meditative state: a space to be present, to navigate thought, to transform a fleeting observation into her own visual language. The way sunlight hits the surface of a leaf, or a colour that reflects a particular mood, becomes material.

Doughty has exhibited internationally, including Gaijin drawings at Big Love Records, Tokyo (2013); Blue Shop Cottage — Works on Paper, London (2020 & 2021), group show at Etesian Gallery, Menorca (2025); and Thresholds, a duo show at Atlas House, Ipswich (2025). She has been awarded residencies at the Jan Van Eyck Academie Design Summer School (2017), Hawkwood College, Stroud (2021) and Casa Balandra, Majorca (2022).
