Saturday Studios – Folk Tales: Collaging our Stories

How do folk tales live on? On the page, in our minds, through recorded images and sounds?
Join Collective Home Embedded Artist Carina NicHaouchine in a workshop where you will have the chance to create a folk tale of your own. Folk stories often come from reimagining everyday domestic life and reconstructing memories. Together we will shape these into something fantastical.
Drawing from Scottish and Kabyle (an ethnic group native to the mountainous Kabylia region of Algeria) aural storytelling traditions, the workshop will explore little-known folk tales, how they have lingered and how we can share and preserve our own mythology – creating magical documentation through collage.
Please bring along any photographs, magazine/newspaper clippings, or visual material that might inspire you. Additional collaging materials will also be provided.

Collective Home: Community, Creativity & Action in Argyll is one of the 23 Scotland-wide projects awarded funding through Culture Collective in 2026-2027.
Funded by the Scottish Government, Culture Collective places creativity at the heart of community development, supporting artists and organisations to work directly with communities, respond to local priorities, strengthen local identity and create paid opportunities for creative practitioners.
Focussed upon the concept of home and what this means now for communities in Argyll, our project reflects the distinct character and composition of our rural and coastal region. Through sustained projects devised collaboratively by the creative practitioners we support and the participating communities, we will explore what home means for young people in Argyll, for those facing the challenges of the climate crisis, and for those with lived experience of displacement and settling in this region. Developed in partnership with local organisations, our work will harness the power of creativity and collective action to build community, promote cultural exchange, and enhance lives.
