Raed Jazbeh

Raed Jazbeh (photography, Konstantin Tribus)

Raed Jazbeh is a Syrian musician, double bassist, artistic director and cultural practitioner based in Hamburg, Germany. Growing up in Aleppo, one of the Arab world’s most significant musical cities, he pursued his academic music studies in Damascus alongside studies in visual arts. His practice spans orchestral performance, artistic direction and interdisciplinary cultural projects, examining music as a space for identity, memory and dialogue between cultures.

In 2015, he founded the Syrian Expat Philharmonic Orchestra (SEPO), a symphony orchestra bringing together Syrian musicians across Europe and the diaspora, presenting Syrian symphonic works alongside the international classical repertoire. Since its inception, SEPO has performed at prominent venues and festivals throughout Europe.

Alongside music, he works across composition, visual arts, theatre and filmmaking, using art as a means of cultural exchange, collective expression and the creation of new forms of belonging between exile and homeland.
