Claire Prentice is an award-winning journalist and writer. She is the bestselling author of four narrative non-fiction books, most recently Curse of Riches, and has made audio documentaries for the BBC. Claire edited The List, Scotland’s leading arts and culture magazine, and was a commissioning editor with the Sunday Times. She has contributed to media outlets across the globe including The Times, The Independent, The Washington Post, The Guardian, Grazia, Marie Claire, the Sydney Morning Herald, the Daily Telegraph, Arte television, and American and Australian public radio. She was America correspondent for Scotland on Sunday and The Scotsman during which time she covered three U.S. presidential election campaigns. She made an audio documentary about the history of lobotomy which looked at changing attitudes to mental health and has written on this topic in the Radio Times and BBC History magazine. She is currently working on a project about social withdrawal and isolation around the globe.
She is the recipient of grants and fellowships from Virginia Humanities, Kraków Unesco City of Literature, Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation, Rockefeller Archive Center, Virginia Humanities, Creative Scotland, Scottish Book Trust, the Dora Maar Foundation, and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation x Women in Journalism Scotland.
