Adéráyọ̀

Adéráyọ̀ (courtesy of Music Space)

Adéráyọ̀ (she/her) is a Nigerian-born, Glasgow-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans music, movement, moving image, and live performance. Her work explores queerness, migration, the mind, memory, and emotional healing, often combining sound, movement, and visual storytelling to create immersive interdisciplinary experiences. Adéráyọ̀ uses her voice not only for lyricism but also as an instrument in itself, incorporating whispers, fragments, and resonances. She is equally inspired by dance and intuitive movement, using improvisation and ritual-like repetition to embody states of grief, vulnerability, or release.

She is drawn to work that sits between disciplines and uses sound and the body as ways of telling stories that words alone cannot hold. Much of her inspiration comes from my lived experience as a queer Nigerian artist, navigating displacement, identity, and the longing to belong. Musically, Adéráyọ̀ is interested in layered vocals, looping, polyphonic textures, and ambient soundscapes that can blur into physical performance. She uses her voice not only for lyricism but also as an instrument in itself, exploring whispers, fragments, and resonances. Adéráyọ̀ is equally inspired by dance and intuitive movement, often using improvisation and ritual-like repetition to embody states of grief, vulnerability, or release.

Recent projects include *Dissonance*, a moving-image and live art project that explores queer embodiment, dissociation, and memory. It has been exhibited in Glasgow, Edinburgh, and will be curated as part of the Scottish Queer International Film Festival. Adéráyọ̀ also curated *Resonate* and *Ecstasy*, live multidisciplinary nights that platformed QTIBPOC artists and blurred the line between clubbing and performance art. Upcoming projects include *The Siren Room*, commissioned by the Centre for Contemporary Arts, which combines sound, storytelling, and movement.
