Catherine Simpson is the author of one novel and two memoirs. Her third memoir Hold Fast: Motherhood, My Autistic Daughter and Me is due for publication later in 2025. Her first memoir When I Had a Little Sister: The Story of a Farming Family Who Never Spoke, was described as: ‘Superb’ (Sunday Times) ‘Riveting’ (The Observer) ‘A study in gender oppression’ (TLS) and was featured on Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour. Her second memoir One Body: A Retrospective was selected for World Book Night 2023 and shortlisted for Non-fiction book of the year in Scotland’s book awards. Her debut novel Truestory won a Scottish Book Trust New Writers Award.
Catherine wrote and performed a monologue for BBC Radio 4 entitled Driving Dad to the Old Folks’ Home. Her words have also appeared in, among others, the Telegraph, the Times and the Scotsman. She is a regular cultural reviewer on Radio Scotland and was a Non-fiction judge for the Saltire Prize 2024.
