Alison Clifford
Duration
Alison Clifford is a Glasgow-based artist whose work investigates the interstitial—or in-between—through digital art. She is interested in processes of translation between different forms of media, considering the new creative possibilities that result from what is lost or gained through such interpretation. Her recent work explores how natural phenomena can influence the relationship between sound and image in experimental audiovisual art.
Her creative output spans net-art, experimental film, interactive works, and audiovisual installations. She has exhibited widely in international new-media and electronic art festivals, including: FILE Electronic Language International Festival (Brazil), Pixellated Words (Barcelona), Shapeshifting Texts (Germany), Seeing Sound (UK), Generative Art Conference (Italy), and the Zebra Poetry Film Award (Berlin). Awards and commissions include: a BAFTA nomination for interactive media, an SFMOMA Open Space commission, and a place on the Lumen Prize shortlist. Her work was also featured in the second edition of the Electronic Literature Collection (USA).
She has a PhD from Glasgow School of Art and a Master in Digital Art from the Audiovisual Institute, University of Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona). She is a Reader in Digital Art at the University of the West of Scotland.
