Michelle Burke
Duration
Michelle Burke is a folk singer, songwriter, and theatre-maker from East Cork, based in Scotland. She carries her homeland in her voice—unmistakable, unapologetic, a compass that always points toward home. Her hit show Step into My Parlour toured from Edinburgh to India through Spiegeltents, theatres, village halls and festivals. This summer, she’s premiering Mind How You Go, a brand-new show directed by Gerda Stevenson—featuring original songs from her forthcoming album produced by Duke Special. It’s a rollicking, poignant tale stitched with Irish ghosts, moving statues, and the powerful call of home, where Angelus bells chime alongside echoes of ‘Murder, She Wrote’.
In her work, Burke navigates the delicate balancing act familiar to emigrants everywhere: one foot planted in the soil you came from, the other dancing on foreign ground. Michelle’s other passion is creating theatre for people living with dementia. At the centre is connection, brought to life through interactive playful performances. Commissioned by Capital Theatres, she’s created shows like The Hillman Hunter and Jack In The Box. A former lead singer of Cherish the Ladies, Michelle finds oddities in the everyday and crafts characters so real you half expect them waiting in the lobby after the show.
