Cove Park’s programme of Early Career Residencies support UK-based artists in the process of establishing their careers, providing an opportunity for research and the development of new work at this crucial stage. We are pleased this year to offer four residencies to artists specialising in composition/music, crafts/design, literature and visual art. This year, the visual arts residency has been awarded to Tom Sewell.

Tom Sewell’s practice encompasses drawing, print, photography and sculpture. His work explores the porous border between the reality of the elemental landscape (its stones, plants, air and water) and the human idea of places and things. He has described this process as ‘trying to get lost in the interpretive ambiguities involved in attempting to apprehend the world through images.’ Following on from an intense period of research, leading to his second solo exhibition earlier this year, Tom will use this residency to focus upon his studio practice and the development of a new body of work.
