Stuart Macpherson is a freelance bassist and composer based in rural Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.  A keen collaborator, Stuart enjoys working with artists from different disciplines, drawing on his experience within the workshop environment as well as his skills as an improviser to bring about innovative responses to creative questions.

He has been involved in numerous projects, most recently the highly acclaimed orchestration of Martyn Bennett’s ‘GRIT’ by Greg Lawson at Edinburgh International Festival.   As a composer, Stuart’s work has been performed by Mr McFall’s Chamber, Red Note Ensemble and has been twice shortlisted for the Martyn Bennett Prize for Composition.  He has worked on cross-disciplinary projects through National Theatre of Scotland, Creative Mackintosh Festival and most recently Spotted Stripes Circus.

Stuart also teaches privately and works regularly as a music facilitator with Paragon Music, working with young and vulnerable people with additional support needs on a range of creative music programmes.   www.stuartmacpherson.net
