Jackie Stevenson was born and grew up in Kirkintilloch, near Glasgow and graduated from Glasgow School of Art in Drawing and Painting in 1978.

In 2003 Jackie opened a small studio and gallery space in Wheathampstead, Hertfordshire, running workshops and community exhibitions. Moving to Whitley Bay, she worked from the Biscuit Factory Studios in Newcastle for 3 years before relocating to Cowal in 2016.

Jackie’s work is landscape-based and tries to capture the colours, moods and textures of the west of Scotland, using sketches of the environment to develop and explore new ways of using water-based media. Through experimentation she has developed ways of pushing the boundaries by using different surfaces and adding collage and mixed media, adding depth, texture and a richness of colour. The work can develop in unexpected ways with the surface of the image almost becoming as important as the original subject.
